What kind of classes are held?
A minimum of 20 class hours are distributed over a five to six week period, in two to three hour classes which
are held during the day. Classes cover clown history, costuming, make-up, the Caring Clown persona and more. Students also
experience a hands-on introduction to many of the skills that are used by our Caring Clowns to provide the entertainment that
our audiences expect.
We hold class sessions twice a year for individuals who wish to actively participate with our group of
volunteer Caring Clowns. Upon completion of the course, graduates become members of Call Us Clowns and join our existing troupe
in performing the volunteer gigs that are the mainstay of our organization.
What does it cost?
Our instructors are members of our organization who volunteer their time to help students enjoy their introduction
to the world of the Caring Clown. Registrants are asked to pay a class fee which includes their initial supplies (which
include make-up, some props and training literature, at cost), and the dues for their
first year's membership in our charitable organization.
Our performing volunteer members are required to carry Performer's Liability Insurance which is offered, at reasonable cost, through
the World Clown Association. This is for your protection as well as the protection of the Alley and its other members.
Information about membership in the World Clown Association as well as its Performers Liability Insurance will be
made available to you in the classes, and the WCA membership and insurance forms will be provided to you just prior to
graduation.
The cost of clown costumes can range from minimal cost if you build your clown wardrobe using your own individual creativity
and unique design for that special look, to as much as you are willing to spend on professionally designed and manufactured
clothes, wigs, shoes and accessories from some of the leading manufacturers of clown costumes. We encourage a minimal
outlay for your initial costume. In the classes we will assist you so that your first costume creation is attractive and coordinated
to your make-up and to the clown persona you project.
Caring Clowning is very personally rewarding and it's fun work; however it requires a commitment of time and
effort.
Contact us for more information or to request an application form to apply for classes. We will inform you when the next series
of Caring Clown classes is scheduled to be held.
